Hay algo enternecedor en un libro antiguo, como si su deterioro fuera en realidad una adaptación a nuestra forma de vivir. Es más fácil abrirlo y más relajante tocarlo. Con los años se acomoda a tí.

There is something touching in an old book, as if the deterioration was in fact an adaptation to our way of life. It is easier to open it and more relaxing to the touch. Over the years it simply suits you.

Collages

El collage nos permite almacenar distintas fuentes de inspiración, quizás de una forma única. Llevo más de cinco años con este hobbie y estoy a punto de terminar el tercer tomo. La información siempre está desestructurada, porque mezclo imágenes de todo tipo con artículos, citas y dibujos, pero es curiosísimo ver nuestra evolución. Estoy segura de que os impresionaría comprobar cómo cambian nuestros gustos en tan poco tiempo.

The collage allows us to store different sources of inspiration, perhaps in a unique way. I have over five years with this hobby and I am about to finish the third volume. The information is always unstructured because I mix images of all kinds with articles, quotes and drawings, but it is curious to see our own evolution. I'm sure you would be impressed to see how our tastes change so quickly.

Epiphany

Calligraphy

La caligrafía que veis en la foto no es mía, sino de un administrativo al que sorprendí mientras tomaba unos apuntes en ventanilla. Le rogué que pasara a mi cuaderno una cita que llevaba varios meses perdida en el móvil, y esperé hasta que sacó un ratito para ello. La veo como una pieza de arte, y como un recuerdo de que hay a nuestro alcance muchas más satisfacciones de las que pensamos.

The calligraphy you see in the picture is not mine, but from an administrator who I sow while he was writing down some notes over the counter. I begged him to pass a quote from my phone to my notebook, and I waited until they took a while for it. I see it as a piece of art, and as a reminder that we have the power of reaching more satisfactions than we hope.

Mary Blair

Mary Blair era la ilustradora favorita de Walt en la época dorada de Disney. Su estilo plano y surrealista es referencia. Sus obras ilustradas, editadas hace más de cincuenta años, son objeto de culto en eBay y Amazon. Cuando ví su obra por primera vez, me fascinó su abundante universo de colores y detalles, y a la par, el sentimiento nostálgico que irradia.

Mary Blair was Walt's favorite illustrator in the golden age of Disney. Her flat and surreal style is a reference. Her illustrated books, edited more than fifty years ago, are valuable on eBay and Amazon. When I saw her work for the first time, I was fascinated by her rich universe of color and detail, and besides, by the nostalgic feeling that radiates.

Notebooks

Que la inspiración te pille trabajando...o toma rápidamente nota de ella. Un cuaderno es lo último que facturaría en un viaje, porque cada uno tiene un contenido insustituible. Algunos, construídos y personalizados manualmente, no tienen precio. Si hay espacio, mejor llevar varios.

Better if the inspiration come while working ... or catch it quickly by taking note of it. A notebook is the last thing invoiced on a trip, because each one has an irreplaceable content. Some, built and handmade, are priceless for me. If there is space, better take a more than one.

Música

Uno de los lugares más propensos a inspirar es una sala de música. Las melodías nos transportan y nos hacen conectar imágenes e ideas muy interesantes. Si no fuera porque las luces están apagadas, dedicaría el 100% del tiempo de un concierto a dibujar. Este dibujo, por ejemplo, nació en el Auditorio Nacional. No pretendía retratar a la violonchelista original, sino almacenar algo de su expresión corporal, su elevada concentración y el placer que provocaban las notas en su cara. Envidia sana.

One of the most likely to inspire is a music room. The melodies carry us and make us connect interesting images and ideas. If it was not because the lights are off, I would dedicate 100% of the time to draw. This drawing, for example, was born in the Auditorio Nacional. I did not mean to portray the original cellist, but store some of his body language, their high concentration and how the notes caused pleasure on her face. Healthy envy.

Nova Scotia Cottages

Uno de los aspectos más atrayentes de un viaje es tropezar con otros estilos de vida. ¿Estamos los urbanitas configurados para vivir en una gran ciudad o seríamos igualmente capaces de saborear una existencia tranquila en una casita junto al mar? Estas imágenes son de Nueva Escocia, Canadá. Seguramente casi cualquier carretera costera de la isla descubre paisajes como este.

One of the most appealing aspects of a travel is finding other lifestyles. Are the urbanites set to living in a big city or would be equally able to enjoy a quiet existence in a cottage by the sea? These images are from Nova Scotia, Canada. Surely almost any coastal road of the island has landscape views like this.

Afternoon Tea

Un placer al alcance de cualquiera. Degustar un Afternoon Tea inglés sin prisa, en buena compañía, y a ser posible en un ambiente acogedor (estilo shabby chic, por ejemplo). Primero empiezas por los sándwiches (uno debe ser de pepino y mantequilla), luego los scones y por último lo más dulce. Por supuesto, bien acompañado por una buena selección de tes ingleses.
Me gusta la mezcla de platos, vasos y cubiertos, al estilo del Kaiseki japonés, donde cada soporte está pensado para intensificar el aspecto de los alimentos. Imaginación al poder.

A pleasure for anyone. Enjoying an English Afternoon Tea leisurely, in good company, and if possible, in a friendly atmosphere (shabby chic style, for example). First you start with the sandwiches (one must be cucumber and butter made of), then the scones and finally the sweetest. Of course, well accompanied by a good selection of English tea.
I like the mix of dishes, glasses and cutlery, pure Japanese Kaiseki style, where each piece is designed to enhance the appearance of food. Imagination to power.

Por un momento imagina que es tu casa. Acaba de llover. Te sientas en una mesa junto al ventanal, y disfrutas del olor a campo, flores y tierra mojada, mientras saboreas un té... Qué gran poder tiene la imaginación. Como dijo Ana María Matute, "El que no inventa no vive".

Para nuestros amigos Elisa y Roberto. Organizamos para ellos un desayuno especial en Margó Salón de Té. Las imágenes son de antes de que llegara todo el mundo, por lo que se pueden apreciar muchos detalles de la cuidada decoración. To our friends Elisa and Roberto. We arrange for them a special breakfast in Margó Tea Room. The images are from before the arrival of the people, so you can see many details of the decoration. The bouquet of flowers is by Elisabeth Blumen and the card is form a Polish flea market. A fusion of styles evoking the past to wish them a happy future!

El simbolismo de Joe Wright

En mi opinión, uno de los directores actuales con más sensibilidad visual es Joe Wright. Hay auténticas tesis en internet sobre la cuidada simbología que emplea en sus películas. Orgullo y Prejuicio fue una de las primeras y es, quizás, mi película favorita. No sé si es la fina banda sonora, las voces originales, la luz, la delicadeza de los colores o la viveza de unos decorados que son como el alma de los personajes. Es curioso como la mente absorbe una imagen. Hay secuencias que huelen a flores, otras a sábanas limpias, otras a tierra mojada. Hay muchas escenas increíbles, pero me quedo con esas en las que los silencios de un personaje, engrandecen la música del momento. Entre mis favoritas, el recorrido de Elisabeth por el hogar de Darcy, mientras te envuelve una suave melodía. Estética y simbolismo en perfecta armonía.

In my opinion, one of the present directors with more visual sensitivity is Joe Wright. There are real thesis on the internet about the careful symbolism used in his films. "Pride and Prejudice" was one of the first ones and is, perhaps, my favorite movie. I do not know if it is because the fine soundtrack, the original voices, light, delicate colors and the vividness of some sets, that are like the soul of the characters. It is strange how the mind absorbs an image. There are sequences that smell like flowers, others with clean sheets, some damp earth. There are many incredible scenes, but I'll take those in which the silence of a character, ennoble the music of the moment. Among my favorites, the route of Elisabeth by the home of Darcy, while you wrap a soft melody. Aesthetics and symbolism in perfect harmony.

Un campo de flores silvestres

Qué mejor forma de terminar la semana que con imágenes de un campo silvestre idílico. Son de hace un par de semanas, a la altura del km 98 de la Carretera de la Coruña. Entonces me pareció la ubicación ideal para las fotografías de imagen de la Colección de Ana de las Tejas Verdes.

Una vez pasada la emoción inicial me di cuenta de los inconvenientes. Entre todos, la distancia con respecto a Madrid. Para fotos al atardecer, es un trayecto lo suficientemente incómodo como para echar para atrás a todas las personas que deseaba que participaran en la sesión de fotos (modelo, fotógrafo y colaboradores). Por suerte, poco después encontré una localización nueva en Madrid. La semana que viene os la enseño.

What better way to end the week that with images of an idyllic rustic field. They were made a couple of weeks ago, at km 98, Carretera de la Coruña. Then I found it as the ideal location for Collection Anne of Green Gables photographs .

Once the initial excitement past, I realize the inconveniences. Above all, the distance from Madrid. For pictures at sunset, it is a journey uncomfortable enough to take back all those I wanted to involve in the photo shoot (model, photographer and collaborators). Luckily, shortly after I found a new location in Madrid. Next week I will teach it.

Plant Care

Cuidar plantas aporta un gran placer a millones de personas que en su dedicación, ven resultados inmediatos muy gratificantes. Para los que no siempre somos tan dedicados, siempre está la opción de la hiedra. Esta planta trepadora es símbolo de eternidad, pues vive decenas de años y es muy resistente a las adversidades meteorológicas.

Caring for plants gives a great pleasure to millions of people who, in his dedication, see immediate results that are very rewarding. For those who are not always so dedicated, there is always the option of ivy. This climbing plant is a symbol of eternity. It lives for decades and is very resistant to adverse weather.

The dream kitchen

Hay espacios que envuelven y narran, que reflejan en cada esquina la identidad de una persona...o de varias, porque son la suma de elementos que ya fueron seleccionados en vidas pasadas y con el tiempo se recuperan para otros. Ayer pude cocinar en esta cocina, delicada, colorida y con mil objetos seleccionados con cariño de mercadillos y desembalajes.  Desdichadamente no es mi casa, pero es la tienda de Federica & Co, una vez cierra y empiezan sus cursos de cocina.

There are spaces that surround and tell, reflecting in every corner the identity of a person ... or more, because they are the sum of elements that were selected in past lives and recover in time for others. Yesterday I could cook in this kitchen, delicate, colorful and with a thousand of objects selected from flea markets and furniture rummage sales. Sadly it is not my home, but it is the Federica & Co store , once it is closed and she start their cooking classes.
